Lee Hsien Yang – The Brilliant Strategist or Victim?

Buzzword of the Saga – Omnipresent, Dogsbody, Bamboozled.

We can’t deny that Lee Hsien Yang (Ah Yang), Cambridge graduate (not anybody can go there)  and former CEO of Singtel is a brilliant strategist. His Defence Minister at that time even told Lee Kuan Yew (Papa Lee) at that time that he will make a good head of civil service. But he wanted life in the commercial sector. In fact, Papa Lee even called him VERY SHREWED (from Hard Truths). Of course, to put it into context, Papa Lee was referring to Ah Yang’s investing skills. In fact, hindsight is 50-50.

As we have seen over the last few days, Ah Yang had deployed several good tactics to take snipes at first his brother Lee Hsien Loong (Bro Lee) and implicate the Government to destroy the credibility of his big brother. His snipes are in bite-sized portions but interestingly, Ah Yang has chosen to selectively respond or deflect (tai-chi as they call it). Doing a Donald Trump comes to mind. As they say, willing to critique but not willing to take it. Here are some of the issues he has not disputed.

Thought he was leaving the country?

In the original statement, he gained some sympathy by playing the victim card. He and his sister were fearful for themselves because of Bro Lee’s omnipresent . (Sidenote: Omnipresent can now take a backseat. Dogsbody has taken over as buzz word of the saga). He said

We fear the use of the organs of state against us and Hsien Yang’s wife, Suet Fern.

Has he left already or still in Singapore taking more snips at Bro Lee and Singapore? SHREWD MOVE.

Once again, who drafted or prepared the Last Will aka 7th Will?

Instead of addressing it, his countered by insinuating that Bro Lee did not understand Papa Lee’s own will and delivered the shot “This is an insult to a great man.” It is because his wife Suet Fern was the one but did not ensure that Papa Lee had independent legal advice? Does this mean she acted illegally? SHREWD MOVE.

Much focus on the Last Will was on the Demolition Clause. Ah Yang questioned his brother “Does he or does he not believe that Lee Kuan Yew was unwavering in his wish that the house be demolished? Is his statement to Parliament false, or is his statement under oath false?” he made it seem that there was only one outcome – demolition. However, there was a 2nd part to the clause that

If our children are unable to demolish the house as a result of any changes in the laws, rules or regulations binding them, it is my wish that the house never be opened to others except my children, their families and descendants.

If Papa Lee was unwavering in his wish for demolition, why was it removed from the 5th and 6th Will? What is Ah Yang and his wife’s ulterior motive? SHREWD MOVE.

Hsien Yang has Omnipresent.

Ho Ching has Dogsbody.

We at RTSN have Bamboozled.
