PLAYING the game intelligently, Worker’s Party (WP).
In a video post uploaded on WP’s Instagram channel, Worker’s Party Sylvia Lim confirmed that the Workers Party will not be contesting in the Bukit Batok by-election.
I scratch your back you scratch mine?
WP knows that they are not a prominent party in Bukit Batok. Even with their mechanism in place, it is a tall order to contest there. With Chee’s SDP declaring their interest to run for Bukit Batok by-elections almost immediately, it is best to avoid multi-cornered fights.
By allowing the “rightful owner” SDP to have the slice of the cake, it shows graciousness and willingness to work with fellow opposition. This sets the stage for the future, indicating WP as a party that is rational and cooperative.
Sun Tzu’s Art of War?
Bukit Batok SMC was carved out of the Jurong Group Representation Constituency (GRC) for the 2015 General Election (GE). This means that MIW has a stronghold in the area and they are confident to battle as a SMC. It is wise to let other battle whilst WP looks into their Town Council(TC) issues and plans for greater dominance in 2020.
